10x Marketing was founded in Feb. 2002 by CEO Paul Allen. Mr. Allen is an experienced entrepreneur, CEO and Marketing Executive.
His first startup, Infobases Inc., published religious and educational CD-ROMs. As CEO, Mr. Allen helped the company grow from zero to $4 million in revenue in just five years, garnering honors from Inc. Magazine in 1996 as one of the 500 fastest growing privately held companies in the U.S.
Shortly thereafter, Mr. Allen and a business partner acquired Ancestry, a small genealogy reference publisher in Salt Lake City, with revenues of under $800,000 per year. By focusing on acquiring and creating genealogy databases and publishing them on the web, Ancestry.com grew into an internet powerhouse, becoming the leading internet genealogy company by 1999.
In late 1998 the company launched its MyFamily.com service, which provides private password protected web sites for families. It became one of the fastest growing internet sites of all time. The company then raised more than $75 million in venture capital and changed its name to MyFamily.com.
Mr. Allen opened the company's San Francisco office in 1999 and drove the acquisitions of Rootsweb, the oldest and largest genealogy community on the internet, and Ah-ha.com, a top 10 pay-per-click search engine family-friendly search results.
Relocating from Silicon Valley back to Provo in January 2001, Mr. Allen assisted his brother Curt Allen (formerly Chairman of MyFamily.com) in leading the Series E fund-raising round which brought an additional $15 million of capital into the company and helped bring the company into its present strong financial position.
Serving most recently as its Vice President of Marketing, Mr. Allen helped the company reach 10 million monthly visitors and over 800,000 paid subscriptions, making MyFamily.com one of the three largest content subscription services on the web, behind Wall Street Journal and Consumer Reports.
Mr. Allen served on the MyFamily.com board of directors from 1997 to 2001. He is one of the largest individual shareholders in the company. He currently serves on the board of directors of Power-Glide Inc. and eFamily (Ah-ha.com).
Mr. Allen also owns and publishes WorldHistory.com, a leading history web site with nearly 100,000 monthly visitors.
