The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints: ICS Training

Project Summary

In today's changing environment, many companies offer their employees training to keep their skills current. The ICS Department of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints uses a highly specialized process to provide IT solutions. Its employees needed an effective training program to help them learn and implement the process involved. BYU Management Consultants examined the training options available to the ICS Department, answering the following questions:

1. What are best training practices employed by other companies?
2. What are the ICS Department's employees' training needs and wants?
3. What training method(s) will likely result in a successful training program?
4. How can the special concerns of the ICS Department best be addressed?

As a result of their investigation, BYU Management Consultants recommended that the ICS Department use Learning Optics, a multimedia-training software, in conjunction with classroom lab instruction to train employees. It was also recommended that these training methods be supported by a certification program in which training completion would be tied to employees' quarterly performance evaluation.
