As a student consulting group from Brigham Young University, we received the PFD Access project from the Information and Communication Systems Department (ICS) at the LDS church headquarter. The Physical Facilities Department (PFD) is in charge of the maintenance and construction of temples, meetinghouses, seminaries and other religious buildings world-wide. ICS created Facilities Management Automation Tool (FMAT), which is used by PFD. In addition to FMAT, PFD uses 29 Access applications, written by a software consulting firm that doesn’t work with Church anymore.
ICS is in the process of integrating those Access applications into FMAT. ICS asked us to make a detailed analysis of three Access applications: Check-In/Check-Out, As-Built and Meetinghouse Technical Support. For each of these applications, we have conducted a detailed analysis of the system's current functionality and have provided recommendations for the future upgrade. We interviewed the end users at PFD and documented suggestions for improvement. After completing analysis of each application, we have created HTML prototypes for the three applications.
