Two Marriott School professors are finding new ways to expand their students’ business experiences in and out of the classroom.
Scott Hobson, associate professor of accounting, and John Richards, managing director of the Rollins Center for eBusiness, jointly teach the information systems managing and consulting projects class (I SYS 552). The objective of the class is to connect students with local and national business and provide professional consulting opportunities.
Amy Rees Lewis, CEO of Mediconnect, digital medical records company, makes no claims of having planned on being her own boss, but when life circumstances opened an entrepreneurial door, she enthusiastically crossed that business threshold.
As a young mother of two, Lewis’ financial situation made working a necessity. The decision posed a dilemma: she wanted to be able to stay at home with her children, but she needed to provide for them. In the end, she compromised and began working out of her home.
A new program sponsored by the Center for eBusiness is helping improve the odds for student web developers in their job-search and employers looking for qualified employees. Web Developers 2 Go, created by the eBusiness Center, offers a new way for students and employers to find each other. Students create a profile by listing their web development skills and posting their portfolios on the site. Then, employers who visit the site can find students with the skills specific to their projects’ needs.
