Since the Kevin and Debra Rollins Center for eBusiness was established in April 2000 we have worked to better prepare our students to excel in a networked and increasingly digitized world. One of our greatest assets is our ability to offer students volunteer work, competitions, and course work that provides real-world experience in e-business.
The center had great success in opening e-business doors to our students last year. We were pleased to give students the opportunity to hear Paul Allen, co-founder of many e-buisnesses, including Infobases, MyFamily and his latest venture ProvoLabs; Josh James, co-founder of Omniture; and Kevin Johnson, co-president of the largest division of Microsoft; at our fall and winter eBusiness Days. Students who participated in our lecture series were also able to hear the experiences and advice of leaders in the information technology industry.
Fall 2005 semester\\\'s web analytics competition gave students a chance to use Omniture’s SiteCatalyst software in a real-life analysis of the efficiency of web site marketing for a major e-commerce site.
The center has seen great things from faculty research and from student volunteer work, and anticipates another great year as it works with students, faculty, e-business professionals and companies in the e-business field.
This year the center will build on and add to these already established programs. We will kick things off with a recruiting meeting to make students aware of the great opportunities and activities we offer.
Mark your calendars for the first eBusiness Day scheduled for late October. We will get the date out soon.
This semester we will be working with Omniture once again, and offer another web analytics competition to students. We hope to bring we analytics and online marketing into more Marriott School courses. We have enlisted Paul Allen, one of our outstanding advisory board members, to teach a state-of-the-art and innovative Internet marketing class.
In our last advisory board meeting Kevin Rollins said, “The only thing that will hold us back is our imagination of what can be done and where it can be done.”
As the center begins a new year, let’s keep his words in mind and work to realize our full potential.
