Newest Advisory Board Member is Up to the Challenge

Charles Wilson has never been afraid of taking on a challenge—in fact, he often goes out of his way to look for them.

“My advice is: look for opportunities to improve your skills wherever those opportunities come from,” he says. “Those opportunities often come from unexpected places, don’t be afraid of challenges; they give you richer learning experiences.”

Wilson, former global strategic business analyst for Targus, is now taking on the challenge of changing careers and becoming the newest member of the Rollins Center for eBusiness Advisory Board.

“Charles has been a great friend for the center,” says Stephen Liddle, director of the Center for eBusiness. “We appreciate the bridges he has built between our center and Targus, and we appreciate his spirit of volunteerism and willingness to contribute to the center’s success. We’re excited to have him on board.”

Wilson recently left Targus to begin working for Lynx Business Intelligence Consulting, a company specializing in advising and counseling businesses in improving performance and profitability through maximizing the efficiency of business data and intelligence sharing.

“What I’m looking to do is position myself in the Corporate Performance Management area where I am touching all those technologies that are shaping the future of that field,” he says. “I want to improve many other companies similar to my work with Targus.”

This line of work is nothing new for Wilson, who worked directly with the CEO of Targus to shift the company from regionally based data storage to a globally based system of intelligence sharing.

“We focused on improving information quality in the company,” he says. “We made global efforts to make sure we had adequate controls on our data and a clear connection between strategy and how our business actually functioned.”

The work Wilson completed during his time with Targus left an indelible mark on the company.

“Charles has been instrumental in driving change in the Targus organization,” says Tony Andrews, senior global product manager at Targus. “His forward-thinking analysis of complex issues at an international company is a rarity. He is able to see achieve goals and formulate a plan to get there.”

Advances in technology are facilitating Wilson and others in the pursuit of increasing availability of information in business organizations.

“It’s a time historically where there is a lot of promising technology,” he says. Technology is evolving to the point where small companies are able to store, report, and visualize data just as their larger corporate counterparts. “It’s an exciting place to be right now,” he says.

Equally exciting is his future work with Lynx Business Intelligence Consulting and the Center for eBusiness.

“I’m really impressed with the initiatives that are in place at the center,” Wilson says. “It’s invigorating to see people who are taking steps to improve the world in a very practical ways. The caliber of people on the board and with the center is excellent.”
