The Rollins Center for eBusiness welcomed a new staff member to its team at the start of BYU’s Winter 2007 semester.
Jeff Brown replaces Happy Larsen who transferred to the Marriott School Dean’s office.
“We appreciate the service Happy gave to the center the last year and a half,” says Stephen Liddle, director of the Rollins Center for eBusiness. “We’re excited to have Jeff, because of his experience working with students, his energy, and enthusiasm.”
Moving from Pocatello, Idaho, to Provo was a smooth transition for Brown and his wife, Shelley—they love it here. The only hitch has been more funny than difficult.
“I’ve always been one to grow facial hair,” Brown says with a laugh. “But I’ve had to adjust—and quickly.”
Adjusting to his new role as program manager and familiarizing himself with his new responsibilities are Brown’s primary goals. “I’m trying to find out all my job entails and get over the learning curve,” he says. “All the people I’ve met here have been friendly, and they’re helping me achieve that goal.”
Among his other goals, Brown is looking to increase attendance at center-sponsored competitions and increase center publicity among the general student body. “Student contributions will not only affect how well the center operates but also it will ultimately affect the students’ future by proffering professional opportunities,” he says.
Before joining the center, Brown served as chair of the Program Board, the activities arm of the Associated Students of Idaho State University. There he worked with a board of nine students to plan and promote on-campus entertainment events. Brown also earned his BS in Human Resource Training and Development with a minor in Business Administration from Idaho State.
Prior to his experiences at ISU, Brown served as the Institute of Religion Student Council president. In this position he had close association with the institute director who specialized in educational leadership. It was during this time that Brown decided to pursue a career in higher education administration.
“I want to study higher education administration, specifically student affairs,” he says. “I’d even like to get a PhD in educational leadership. Eventually, the goal is to serve somewhere as dean of student affairs.”
In the meantime, Brown is focusing on moving forward with the center.
“It’s a great opportunity to work with such distinguished faculty and businesspeople in the center,” Brown says. “They are professional, polished and great to work with. I expect to learn a lot while I’m here.”
