New Assistant Program Manager Is Up to the Challenge
For Holly Watkins, her new position as assistant program manager for the Rollins Center for eBusiness, helps fulfill her passion of learning about technology.
“What I do know is that technology can do great things,” Watkins says. “Now I want to know how I can use technology to reach worthwhile goals. Some goals include organizing family records. I would also like to study how technology can continue to improve education and be a tool for struggling countries, which is closely related to the center’s eCANDLE Project.”
Watkins, a junior from Akron, Ohio, majoring in information systems, replaces Nicole Swain, who left the center to serve in the Pennsylvania Pittsburgh Mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Watkins assists program manager Jeff Brown in promoting and executing center events and projects. She also corresponds with speakers for the E-Business Lecture Series.
“I plan to make the most of my job by promoting the center’s events to help other students know of the opportunities available,” Watkins says. “I know I will learn a lot about using technology more wisely, and I look forward to applying that knowledge in my field.”
When she is not working in the eBusiness Center, Watkins is co-director for the Marriott School’s Mentoring Program. In this capacity, she plans activities to mentor local sixth graders who come to BYU on a weekly basis. She also is an avid fan and collector of Dr. Seuss, loves video editing, and is involved in digital scrapbooking.
Brown values the contribution Watkins brings to the center.
“Student employees are the lifeblood of our center and Holly is a great example of why they are so essential,” Brown says. “When I first met her, I was immediately impressed with the high-level of work ethic that she exhibited. Hiring her was an easy decision—and that decision has already begun paying big dividends for us.”
