LDS Church Internet Manager Joins Advisory Board

For Ron Schwendiman, keeping up with the fast pace of technology is vital in today’s business world.

“Technology is a part of all aspects of our lives,” he says. “We use it in our homes, our transportation, and in our jobs. Both businesses and individuals have to learn how to use the technologies provided to achieve objectives.”

Schwendiman, the manager of internet coordination and project office support for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, is the newest advisory board member of the Rollins Center for eBusiness and brings many years of experience in the online business sector.

“I provide a perspective on e-business that is focused on reaching the world with content that will lift and inspire people,” Schwendiman says. “My involvement with the advisory board is to help students realize their potential both economically and spiritually in their careers.”

For his job with the LDS Church, Schwendiman has developed relationships with many leading web architecture, information technology, and hardware providers. Through these relationships, Schwendiman has helped the church to expand its web sites and web services to a more global reach.

John Richards, managing director of the Rollins Center, values the contribution Schwendiman makes to the advisory board.

“Ron is a senior player in advising the brethren on the direction of the church’s use of the internet,” Richards says. “As such, he is an excellent addition to the eBusiness Center’s advisory board. He brings a lot of process and understanding of BYU’s sponsoring organization.”

Schwendiman, although successful in his career has like all business professionals, encountered his share of challenges.

“The pace of technology change is one of the greatest challenges an organization faces,” Schwendiman says. “Continuing to keep up with and be knowledgeable about the changes in technology is a constant effort for anyone who wants to make a career of or be involved with e-business. E-business challenges us to keep learning, keep stretching, and to keep trying new things. Sometimes we fail in our attempts, but we have to learn and try again.”
