New Webmaster Joins the Rollins Center for eBusiness Team
In April 2000, The Rollins Center for eBusiness launched its first web site, ebusiness.byu.edu, to provide a unique opportunity for partnerships among students, faculty, and members of the business community. Amazingly, this site at its inception took only fifteen days to complete.
Now seven years later, this web site has become a valuable asset to students, providing information on e-business related events, speakers, courses, and other resources. To keep the site running and properly maintained, the eBusiness Center hires a student as a webmaster. Last month, Ryan Gardner, an information systems student from O’Fallon, Illinois, became the newest webmaster for the center. Gardner sees his new position as a fortunate opportunity to learn more about technology.
“I think working as a webmaster will help me out a lot because it will expand my technical knowledge,” Gardner says. “I’ll be able to learn more about web programming, database development, and lots of other useful technologies.”
As part of his job, Gardner will troubleshoot, create, and activate web pages and fix problems on the site. He sees the eBusiness Center as excellent preparation for his position as an information systems auditor in the federal practice of PriceWaterhouseCoopers next year.
“I want to absorb as much as possible while I work here,” Gardner says. “The previous webmasters have done an awesome job. The web site is very well organized, and I want to keep up that high standard. I also want to help people in the eBusiness Center with any needs they have so we can increase the web presence on the site.”
Aside from being the webmaster for the center, Gardner enjoys playing football, basketball, baseball, soccer, and ultimate frisbee. He also has a passion for playing the guitar and piano, and watching musicals.
Jeff Brown, program manager of the center, says Gardner was a great candidate for the webmaster job and has faith in his ability to succeed.
“All of the webmasters we hire are required to overcome a hefty learning curve,” Brown says. “Ryan is a great choice for this position because of his eagerness to learn new things and develop his skills as a computer programmer. We have every confidence that Ryan will rise to this challenge and become a valuable asset to our center.”
