The Omniture Web Analytics Competition (OWAC) is one of the premier events that the Rollins Center for eBusiness sponsors each year to help students gain experience in the online business industry. This venue would not be possible without the hard work and dedication of a student leader.
This semester, Thomas Gosney from Kingston, Washington, became the center’s newest OWAC student leader. A junior business management major, Gosney so far has been in charge of the best-ever turnout for the competition.
“The turnout is amazing this year, with about twice as many students attending Omniture University this year than last,” Gosney says. “It’s great to be taking over an event that already has a strong established reputation from the work of the center program manager Jeff Brown and former student lead Jeff Ehlers. Without them, this competition would not be as successful as it is today.”
For his job at the center, Gosney coordinates with the head of Omniture’s human resources department, who is also the eBusiness Center’s liaison for the competition. He is in charge of all event logistics and also assists in marketing the competition.”
Gosney says he applied for the job at the eBusiness Center because working with Omniture provided a fortunate opportunity to meet his future expectations in managing a business.
“The people at Omniture are professional and dedicated, which are two goals I have as I enter the business world,” Gosney says. “Being able to interact with them seemed a good opportunity to gain experience in interpersonal communication as well as seeing how the business world works first hand in a large, fast-paced industry.”
Aside from his position at the eBusiness Center, Gosney enjoys running, reading, playing football and baseball, and watching movies.
Brown says Gosney’s involvement with OWAC started even before his position as its student lead.
“Thomas was a great volunteer committee member last semester before we hired him,” Brown says. “His dedication and reliability as a volunteer was definitely the deciding factor in his hiring. The Omniture Web Analytics Competition has doubled in size this semester, which is proving to be quite a task to manage. Thomas has done a great job of rising to the challenge.”
