E-business is rapidly changing the way the world works, says Jeremy Hanks, CEO of DOBA, a drop shipping web site that allows suppliers and retailers to exchange goods more efficiently, at the eBusiness Lecture Series this winter semester.
Hanks, a champion of many start-up companies and a member of vSpring Captial’s top 100 entrepreneurs list, emphasized the importance of taking advantage of e-business’ ability to make business cheaper and more efficient.
The Rollins Center for eBusiness held its semiannual eBusiness Day event this last month, which focused on how to successfully start and run a web business.
The event titled “Been There, Done That: An Entrepreneur’s Perspective on Starting a Web Business,” featured speakers who were experts in the field of online ventures. The line-up of speakers included Stephen Liddle, a BYU information systems faculty and CTO of EnticeLabs; Blake Modersitzki, partner at UV Partners; and Jeff Kearl, Chief Marketing Officer of Logoworks by HP.
Establish a vision of a prosperous online business and set realistic goals to make it happen, said Kevin Rollins, former CEO of Dell Inc. and founding donor of the Rollins Center for eBusiness, at a recent CEO club lecture.
Rollins stressed the importance of sacrificing now to accomplish future goals and to center a future business venture on a passion.
A student team, Three Performance Vindicators, took a clean sweep at this semester’s Omniture Web Analytics Competition (OWAC). The team walked away with the first place prize (including $5,000 and an LCD HDTV), Biggest Fan Support Award, and the Audience Choice Award.
The team won first out of eighty-eight teams that participated in the competition this semester. Chris Haleua, Tucker Christiansen, and David Woolsey, all business students, put more than 65 hours of work into the competition—and it paid off.
