BYU has been named one of the most wired colleges by Yahoo. Symantec, a leading supplier of computer and network security products and services, has donated security software to BYU. Check out the results of BYU professors' marketing research in gaining a competitive advantage in the online market. BYU student entrepreneur also shares his experience at 'Bootcamp for Startups.' Kijo Cho, (left) adjunct professor with the eBusiness Center, gives his perspective of technology and business relations between Korea and the United States.

Read about the center's Fall 2001 E-business Day and learn what BYU professor Kristen DeTienne has published on electronic communication. Local entrepreneur, Eliot Jacobsen, (as seen in picture on left) shares his lessons learned from recent years in e-business. The center curriculum committee faculty leader, Scott Sampson, introduces this semester's faculty curriculum workshops, where professors can discover new ways to incorporate e-business into their classes. There is also a review on The Essential E-Procurement Guide for Executives.

There is a preview on the Fall 2001 E-business Day, along with an article contributed by Marriott School alumnus Todd Thompson, who now is a leader in eProcurement with Arthur Andersen. Thompson discusses the benefits to eProcurement. Read about this month's featured entrepreneur, Steve Jenkins, "Cheat" Executive Officer for Cheatcodes.com. Information systems professor Bob Jackson (shown in picture on left with his family) writes about his teaching experience this summer in Hong Kong. The book How Digital Is Your Business? is reviewed by Richard Dance.

The eBusiness Center has formed a student advisory board. Read about the students chosen and their goals to improve the center. Find the results of recent research completed by BYU marketing professors Bill Swinyard and Scott Smith, which examined more than 4,000 potential online shoppers and determined which types of consumers should be targeted for online sales. Learn about student Rick Satterfield (standing in picture on the left) who created a comprehensive LDS Temples web site. Then study the valuable introduction to e-book technology.

Learn about Provo-based WhizBang!Labs selling FlipDog.com. Then read the book review on E-Business Roadmap for Success 2.0, where changes from the first version are noted and compared.

Milen Marinov flew home to attend a conference sponsored by the Bulgarian government. Read about his experience there and find out about the center researching the long-term Internet impact on business strategy and organizations. There is also a description of information systems professor Markus Gappmaier, who teaches e-business process management. The book, e-Business Roadmap for Success, is reviewed as well.

May. 2001

BYU Information Systems master students teamed up with the BYU Bookstore to research the taxability of merchandise sold over the Internet. Information systems professor Stephen Liddle was appointed as an Editorial Review Board member of the Journal of Database Management. The Dean of the Marriott School of Management examined the topic, Electronic Business: Is It a Failure? There is a feature on Nathan Allen, Vice President - Allen Academy of e-Learning. Summaries on April's E-business lecture series are also included.

BYU students worked with MSTAR.NET, a non-profit organization affiliated with The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, to create eBusinessGrams. Read about this project, along with a spotlight on this year's student coordinators for the eBusiness Center. Two BYU graduate students won a National Federal Express competition, and there is a feature on BYU Professor Scott Smith, who created SurveyPro.com, and Joshua Steimle, CEO of MindWire Interactive. Summaries on March's E-business lecture series are also included.

Mar. 2001

The eBusiness Center hosted its second semi-annual eBusiness Day conference on February 9, 2001. Steve Jenkins, CEO of Cheatcodes.com was the keynote speaker, who talked about the "Ten Commandments of Internet Business." A summary of the Certified Venture Evaluator Training and the February E-business lecture series are included, along with a feature article on Sean Bryson, CEO of Contaxis.
